Breakfast Talk: Corruption and Fraud – Forensic Investigations: Checklist or AI?

On April 16, our partner Marlis WENNINGER was a guest at the Deloitte Breakfast Talk at Freyung.

Together with students, she addressed a highly topical issue: “Corruption and Fraud – Forensic Investigations: Checklist or AI?”

In a panel discussion with Mag. Karin Maier (Deloitte Austria) and moderated by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Eva Eberhartinger, LLM (Institute for Auditing, Trust Services, and Accounting), key topics were explored regarding career paths in auditing (forensics, financial statement audits, expert witness services), causes, and the detection of corruption and fraud—ranging from systemic weaknesses and economic factors to the role of digitalization and the auditor—were examined.

In addition to technical insights, the discussion also focused on practical aspects:

  • What does forensic work actually entail in day-to-day practice?
  • What skills are particularly in demand in this field?
  • How can graduates build their professional expertise while keeping pace with the latest technological developments?

The exchange with students at WU Vienna was both inspiring and enriching for us. Thank you very much for the invitation, the excellent organization, the keen interest, and the thought-provoking questions!
